Russ

I too thought Noble was excellent at his job on Saturday. It's a lazy view to say he only passes sideways.

Noble takes responsibility time and time again, regardless of how well or badly the team are playing. He knows when to up the tempo and he knows when to slow it down. You can tell Payet looks to him as much as Noble looks to Payet.

Anyone who doesn't notice our captain's valuable attributes should stick to taxi driving and window licking.

First name on the team sheet?

Hahaha!

I thought Noble had a good game too. Best game this season for me. Easily.

That Ndong geezer is pony. £13.5m?!

By the way, I also think Obiang has cemented his place and has made himself first name on the team-sheet. With things not going as well as last season on the offensive front he is absolutely vital. Doesn't stop running, chasing and blocking and breaks play up so well. Has to play.

I think the problem is a lot of what Noble does very well is not shown on MOTD because it's not show-stopping. I was at the game and I can tell you that he played well and moved the ball forward and positively.

So how about taking that as an opinion rather than making up your own.

You mean we're playing with strikers at the moment?

I think we're heading towards not playing any strikers, with Ayew some kind of advanced midfielder.

I can't see Ayew improving us as a striker, we just aren't creating many clear cut chances for one. None of them get enough support to find any space. Especially at home when away teams sit back.

We can all see what we could benefit from in midfield but the midfield version of Kouyate this season has not been as good as last season's version.

Mind you the special one paid out a lot of money for a big strong midfielder who he had the game pass him by today.

It's a football forum. Perhaps then not an inappropriate spot for speculating on what might have happened in a football match.

I reckon that in the line up and shape Slav is using now he'll get goals for us. Hopefully we'll soon find out if that's true.

Mart, that game is history and noone will ever know what impact Ayew would have had.

Point is, we played pretty decent against a team defending in numbers. Many teams are struggling against that type of opposition. That's how we grinded out good results last year remember?

I must say, even though I was supporting what I thought was a deserved call up for the England squad last season, this season he has been pretty poor and wouldn't mind seeing him out the side for a bit.

Not so bad yesterday but i do think he slows our game down with too many touches or a scott parker turn.

I agree broadly with Alex too funnily enough. We do miss the power in the middle, Noble is solid but slow and he slows things down around him. Sadly we need a CM who is better than 'solid'. I'd possibly like to give Fernandes a go there to see if he could be the new midfield Kouyate while the real Kouyate stays at the back where he looks fucking awesome with Reid.

Sadly if this works though then Noble is finished at West Ham. If Fernandes is his replacement then I would be happy, the lad looks decent.

Fuck off Tex, he was solid yesterday.

By the way, what's that site you use for full replays?

Pity the Captain slows us down...and often passes more sideways and back than forwards...

Fernandes will be a faster...better option soon. In his place...

FMOB, I actually find myself kind of agreeing with Alex V.

Although I personally wouldn't find a way for Kouyate in midfield at the moment with the way Obiang is playing.

Could've been a very different game were it not for yet another refereeing aberration - this time the failure to give the penalty early on when Reid was handled with no effort to play the ball.

They've carried on where they left off last season.

Interesting that Utd have just dominated possession and passing accuracy but were on the wrong end of a 4 nil thumping. I agree with something I read recently that said possession should be ignored as a statistic and passes or dribbles that broke through opposition players should be analysed instead. The article I read stated that teams who lead in this area go on to win over 85 percent of games. For me it's something Noble should improve because his ball retention stats are fantastic but how many times does he hurt the opposition. Lanzini and of course Payet are the opposite as they are always looking to try the difficult pass that hurt the oppo.

Exactly. If Ayew had been on that pitch instead of Zaza, Sunderland would have got a pasting.
